It’s the time of year to be grateful and to give. The least we can do is spread some joy to those less fortunate. The Sports Unlimited family recently ran a toy drive for children of Tena, Ecuador, where former employee Adriana Pennino is currently volunteering as a speech thereapist:
HATFIELD, Pennsylvania, December 7, 2010 – SportsUnlimited.com has donated and shipped 28 boxes filled with toys and clothes to Tena, Ecuador, located in the Amazon rainforest, for the children of the area and surrounding villages as part of a new project deemed “Toys for Adriana.” A former employee of Sports Unlimited, Inc. for over three years, Adriana Pennino is now living in Tena, Ecuador, volunteering with the Catholic Medical Mission Board (CMMB) as a speech therapist for the rehabilitation program, Pedihabilidad, providing speech therapy and other services to local children with disabilities. In November, 2010, Pennino contacted Sports Unlimited, Inc. President Don Ball to discuss her experiences and speak on the poor conditions of the people to whom she provides therapy.
“She also mentioned that the kids don’t have any toys and immediately, we started ‘Toys for Adriana.’” Ball said. “I’m not sure that any of us could imagine the joy for these kids if they receive some presents.”
From November 5 to December 1, Sports Unlimited held a toy drive, asking its employees to donate toy cars, trucks, crayons, stickers and sports balls of any kind. By the end of that time they had collected over 28 large boxes filled with toys and clothes for the children of Tena.
“We are so grateful to Don Ball and Dave Neff, Sports Unlimited owners, for generously donating the shipping supplies and international shipping to make this happen!” Pennino said. “And we are extremely grateful to all of the SU crew for donating toys and clothes for the kids!”
Happy Holidays, everyone.
Feliz Navidad, Happy Holidays to the most generous sporting goods company EVER!! 🙂
Saludos,
Adriana
